A Magical World

Today I finally (aka 3 days worth of working) finished reading Twilight. Of course I can not find New Moon, but the search will continue tomorrow. I ate Twilight up. It was like Harry Potter all over again. Anything that involves something magical or impossible to exist usually fascinates me.

When I was young I held onto anything that made the world magical like Santa and the Tooth Fairy. At age 8 I denied that these characters could be simply made up stories. I desperately tried to find proof that they could in fact be real. By the time I was 9 I had accepted that they were "make believe" and a part of my childhood ended. But I still tried to hold on. I loved shows like Bewitched and I Dream of Genie because they centered around magical women in the modern world. I thought that if magic did exist then I had to possess some sort of magical powers. I just needed to unlock them somehow. I also thought that there might be a special age when the magic revealed itself. I knew deep down it wasn't true but it made life bearable to think that my future involved magic. I'm still disappointed about the whole magic thing.

I need a more fullfilling life so these fictional books will stop depressing me. I finished the book today to find I was so depressed because there were no chances I could meet my own Edward and become a vampire with him. Just like at the end of every HP book when the wave of disappointment washed over me because I am not a witch and can not go to Hogwarts with my awesome magical friends. It makes me momentarily want to give up reading. But then I remember this awful life I live and immediately return to my books.

Anywho, back to Twilight. I saw the characters for the movie. Atrocious! Edward is UGLY! That is the exact opposite of what Edward is supposed to be! And Bella looks 25, not 17. I feel I might boycott the movie because of these casting decisions. Silly? Maybe. At least when Harry Potter came out it was pretty much up to par when it came to the cast. Ron, Harry, Prof Monogall, Dumbledore, and a slew of other people met my expectations. Only Hermione and Hagrid were disappointing, but not enough to ruin the movie. Really, Hermione just needed messier hair and Hagrid was way too small. But I guess it's hard to make a normal man to appear like a giant. My problem with these movies was when they strayed from the plot of the books. I would rather sit through days of film that goes strictly by the book. Plus, it makes all of these movie fans who never read the books feel they know Harry Potter. But they don't and never will unless they read the books! They are left in the dark about so many important details by sticking with the movies. I've been trying to get Tina and Chris to read them but so fair it's been a failure. Maybe I'll see the Twilight movie just in case it's close to the book's plot. But if it's not, I believe I might have a mental breakdown.

I can't wait to read New Moon. I read part of the first chapter at the end of Twilight but had to stop before I reached the end of the chapter. I would only wind up disappointed I didn't have the whole book. Of course I can find Eclipse everywhere. But I am not ready for it. And I don't believe they have it in paper back and that's what I bought Twilight in and want them to all be the same. Grrr.

Wow it's late. Time to dream about Edward Cullen ... the hot one ... not the ugly one from the horrendous movie they're making to ruin my life.

edit: I finally found New Moon in Target today! Yippee!!
