"When Friday comes, we'll all call rats fish..."

Feb 28, 2010 22:00

I cooked fish for the first time ever this weekend and it turned out really well. I mixed Panko breadcrumbs with some paprika, lemon pepper mix, and garlic, then used that to coat some cod filets. I sliced up some lemons and put those on top of the whole mess and baked it for about 25 mins and then served it with green beans and some sort of wild rice Uncle Ben's thing. It was pretty awesome and I was impressed - I'm a fairly terrible cook, mostly because I don't follow recipes well, but this meal was actually very good. M is hoping for a repeat soon. I'll have to burn the next one to a crisp or I'll be on dinner duty more often than I like....

What else...

The band and our respective significant others went to go see Girlyman at The Narrows on Saturday as a Forced Family Fun night. We (the band) usually only see each other when we're playing music, so it was fun to hang out and watch someone else play for the evening. The venue was really, really nice, and the staff there were all great. Girlyman was wonderful. I was (am) just barely familiar with them, but after seeing their show last night, I'm ready to become a full blown fan. They were obviously very comfortable at every level: being on stage, interacting with each other, and interacting with the audience. I bought a CD of theirs during intermission and they all signed it and I got to say hello and whatnot. They were very gracious. I really enjoyed the show. Their impromptu songs were amazing - the "Tuning" song was really funny, but the "Olympics" song during the last set had me on the floor - the middle section went something like this (mind you, this is being sung off the top of their heads in two and three part harmony, with guitars and banjos and everything else going as well):

Nate (something to the effect of): "To be honest, I didn't watch the Olympics"
Doris (something to the effect of): "You didn't even watch figure skating?"
Nate: "No, not even figure skating"
Doris: "What's the matter with you? EVERYONE watches figure skating!"
Nate: "What's the matter with me? I didn't even watch figure skating..."
Ty: "He didn't even watch figure skating!"

I'm doing a terrible job of paraphrasing their banter so I'll stop now, but holy heck, it was hysterical (and true - EVERYONE does watch figure skating. Heck, I don't even have a TV and I saw some of the figure skating at a friend's house). Go and see Girlyman!
OK, that's the end I think...
