Only three more days until I fly to Philippines and the only things I’ve packed so far are the souvenirs for my relatives. I’m so glad I have a big luggage that can accommodate all those stuff and still have space for some of my things. Since I’ll only be there for one week, I don’t need to bring much for myself. Just need to organize my clothes, shoes, makeup, and toiletries and I’ll be done.
I have to admit this trip has given me an excuse to glamor myself up a bit. Last Saturday I went out as a Gollum from Lord of the Rings; dressed in old jeans, fuggs boots, Evil Man’s shirt and sweater, no makeup, and sporting a mustache and caterpillar unibrow. First up in the morning was my lash perm at Miyu’s Beauty Salon. Miyu (the lady who did my lashes) still remembered my long and stubborn lashes and I didn’t disappoint her when I asked for dramatic rather than natural. We were quiet throughout the process but man our stomachs were talking non-stop. Her stomach started with a growl, which made mine howl in response. My lashes were done within the hour ($43 with tip).
Afterwards I headed to South Coast Plaza to buy my favorite Clinique High Impact Curling Lash mascara ($16) and Mac black eye liner gel ($16) since there was a sale on Macy’s before 1pm and I’ve had mine since last year :/ Keep in mind that even though my lashes were like full-bloom flowers over spring, I still had my close-to-college outfit complimented by my mustache and unibrow. Regardless how haggard I looked; the sales ladies were still very nice and helpful. At least they didn’t hold me down for makeup necessities.
After the shopping at richville, I headed to Evil Man’s place and had some of his fresh homemade tarako spaghetti. I lounged around for a bit at his place since I still had a couple of hours to kill before my haircut appointment. Time flew by and before I left, I decided to change my shirt at the last minute. Underneath the sweater I borrowed from Evil Man was a sheer white shirt that shows my black polka dot bra and I had a feeling that I will have to remove my sweater when I get my haircut. Better to be safe than sorry.
On my way to my first $50 haircut, I was contemplating on what kind of hairstyle should I get. My sisters have been there before and I have always loved how their hair turned out. Like Miyu Beauty Salon, Arukas Hair Spa is also owned by a Japanese stylist and both are kind of on the pricey side and will only take appointments.
Barely arriving on time, I’ve waited for a little while until a stylist named Kodama approached me and asked if she can hang my sweater for me. Thank goodness I decided to change my shirt! She first assisted me in two robes and led me to sink area to wash my hair. Not only did she washed my hair with nice fruity scented shampoo, but she also did a full head massage before and after the washed.
Feeling refresh from the wash, she then led me to her station and asked what I wanted to do with my hair. I told her I would like to have my bangs shortened and keep the long length. Other than that, I left the rest to her. While she was cutting my hair, she was giving me a few simple tips on how to style my hair. We’ve also talked about Philippines since that was the main reason I was getting a haircut. Our topic then moved on to Japan and I learned she moved here in the US just 9 months ago. She was such a nice person to talk to. Forty minutes later, I was admiring my hair. It felt so much lighter and cleaner compared to how it was before I came in the salon. My hair and I are now in one body. I was so happy with my hair that I gave her a hefty 30% tip ($65 overall).
Now it was off to get rid of my unibrow and mustache at a threading salon. My sister had suggested I get threading instead of my usual plucking and shaving so I decided to give it a try. There was a huge line right when I walked in and I couldn’t help but overhear the lady on the counter telling the girl in front of me it’ll take about a half hour wait. Oh well, I don’t have anything else on schedule so I signed in for eyebrow and above the lip threading. I’ve also signed up for armpit and belly wax.
Only sat down for five minutes and there was already an open station for me. Either I was lucky or I got the station that most of the people were avoiding. I’m guessing it was the latter. My very first threading experience was the upper lip area and man, tears kept rolling down. The lady ended up getting me a different tissue for my tears. That was PAINFUL!!! The eyebrow part wasn’t so bad since I’m somewhat used to it.
Later on after the painful threading experience, we moved to the back room for waxing. Since my twisted side enjoys plucking my armpit hair individually, waxing it basically took away all of it’s gratification. It was fast and it was gone… Brushing hot wax on my stomach on the other hand, was whole new experience. The lady asked me a couple of times if the wax was too hot and I said it was okay. It would’ve been more than okay if Evil Man was there or I was back in SaLebration. Siiigh… What a way to end a make over ($55 with tip).
Other than getting fixed up for my trip, I’ve also gotten my hands on new facial wash and makeup. For facial wash I’ll be trying out Mary Kay’s Miracle Set and Microdermabrasion and as for makeup, I’m going for Urban Decay Naked Palette. I’ve also gotten myself a new black bra since my sister has seen my suns rise a couple of times already.
Honestly, this is one of those very rare times when I spoil myself to death so I might as well enjoy it :)
