rules of engagement

Jun 24, 2009 22:14

We are hoping to create an environment that is both comfortable and easy for our writers to work in, so there are some rules to follow.

Rules:

1. There will be three exercises posted every week. You will need to do at least one.
This is not about turning your writing into a chore or an obligation, but we believe a writer has to write regularly, and this is the way we have to ensure that. We are doing it to help you create a method or at least a habit of writing on a regular, day-to-day basis.

2. Your results will be posted as comments, not posts.
When you have the result of your exercise and you are ready to post, you should post it as a comment to the entry where the exercise was posted. Please don't comment to another comment with your exercise. Our goal here is to create lines of discussion originated by your replies, so we can access the reviews and comments easily. So, when we look at the exercise entry, we'll be able to see a bunch of results, and then navigate through them in a smoother way. In case you have a comment to make that is not related to an exercise, you'll have an open thread on top of the comments page, where you can comment with whatever you want.

3. If you are posting your work to receive feedback, you will be asked to give feedback as well.
Just to get things balanced, really. If you want comments and reviews, you should do it as well. You don't need to comment on everyone's reviews (though it would be really nice), but you need to at least comment on a few, to pay it forward.

4. Only respectful criticism is allowed.
We like criticism. We encourage it. But we say that it has to be constructive and respectful. There will be no flaming, no name calling. If you're thinking about posting the sentence 'this blows' it better be followed by 'my mind'. We will NOT tolerate rudeness of any kind.

5. Enjoy yourself.
That's what we're here to do right? Enjoy ourselves? So let's do it!

If you have any doubts, please read the frequently asked questions. If you still have a doubt after you've read it, then you can contact us through private messaging (to
