I am starting a war...

A War on Joggers out of context!!!

Fuck I hate joggers. This may come as a by product of my dislike for many physical activites that require me to exert myself above and beyond walking to public transport or dancing. It may also be a by product of only ever being allowed to buy cheap ugly joggers for school PE so I always hated wearing my cheap joggers in front of the Nike and Adidas fiends at a private all girls school. But I just hate joggers. I find the designs are quite ugly, unless you spend a lot of money and then you are probably just buying them for the look and they serve no practical purpose in your life.

My newly declared war is primarily squared at the dipsticks who work in professional environments and then they take off their corporate footwear and wear joggers to traverse the city to their mode of transport home. There needs to be rules for the appropriate wearing of joggers.

Rule 1 - Only wear them if you truly need to.
Let me explain. I can understand the physical need to wear comfortable shoes when you have to walk over 1km to get to and from work, to and from your home to the train or bus station. You do not need joggers if your partner drops you off at the station and your walk to your office is 200m from your bus stop. Your work shoes should be comfortable enough to do this in, otherwise you are probably hurting your feet by cramming them into those shoes anyway.

Rule 2 - If you feel the need to wear comfortable flat shoes to travel to your place of employment, then select shoes appropriate to the task.
Your netball joggers are a bit too whiz bang and bulky for walking to the station. Invest in walking shoes that will support your feet in the correct way.

Rule 3 - Remember you are still in a professional environment so your entire outfit should reflect this.
If I see one more pair of joggers and white socks, worn over navy pantyhose and a skirt suit, I will walk up to that person and ask, "Did you look at your outfit before you left the house?". I mean, for fuck's sake, just because you want to be comfortable doesn't mean you should reduce your ensemble to tragic. Today for example, I see this girl who doesn't look much older than me, wearing a very cute little dress, with dirty joggers. Because of the joggers, I just went "Ew" and demoted her outfit from cute to lame.
You can buy joggers/walking shoes that are more streamlined, that are more subtle in their decoration and design that would look more appropriate with a professional corporate outfit, that wouldn't look so out of place.

Now this is a very self indulgent rant and I do appreciate the following counter arguments:
Fuck Fashion - be comfortable
Wearing joggers for half an hour each day probably means their feet will be in better condition than mine will be later in our lives.
Not everyone can afford to buy another pair of sports shoes, so wearing what you have may be the best option even if it looks like shit.
Who gives a shit what Ley thinks anyway?

I appreciate all these important points. I am just so sick of seeing joggers on people's feet in the city.

If you would like to join my war, I shall have badges made once I have 100 supporters.

rants in my pants
