I had a dream last night that I married Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Brad was okay with it. We have been watching a lot of Star Trek, but what's peculiar is that in my dream Picard's name was actually Jean-Luc Picard Rhubarb and I became Leah Rhubarb. I do love rhubarb pie... I also remember feeling sad when I realized I would no longer have my current married last name. :P A couple weeks ago, Brad dreamed that he was playing poker with me, a friend of ours, Data, and Picard. Oh Star Trek, how I love you....
While we're on the topic of science fiction, I've started reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons. I'm enjoying it quite a bit and given that I have failed to become interested in a fair number of scifi books that I've tried reading, it's saying something.
I'm nearly finished with my first term full-time. It has been interesting. I've slacked off more than I meant to. For shame! I've decided that I want to pursue a degree in something that I enjoy whole-heartedly rather than something that I enjoy somewhat and has higher potential earnings. I don't particularly enjoy organized writing, but there is something about researching and analyzing history that comes a little more naturally. I've already taken a couple classes in history and I know I like learning about it, I like writing about it, and I even excel in it. I'm good at a fair number of things, but there are not many areas that I feel I excel in. Anyhow, I declared myself a history major this week and I'm thinking I'll focus somewhere in early modern Europe.
I'll hopefully be taking a class on historiography, the French Revolution & Napoleanic Wars, and Shakespeare next term. Then I'll be taking a years worth of French in the summer and by fall of 2010 I will officially be a junior. WAHOO! It's been a long time coming. My goal is to achieve a 3.25 overall GPA and a 3.5 GPA in my history courses by winter of 2010 so that I can participate in PSU's peer mentor and honor thesis programs in my senior year. With my current GPA that means 2 A's a term. Spring and summer term will be rough, but by fall I am hoping to decrease my work schedule from 35 hours to 20 hours a week.
