im not trying to be snobbish and i dont think the entry is snobbish. the entry is realistic. it is also NOT a outcry against our area or town. its an outcry against me being here. lots of people love it and thats fine.
and as i said in the update AND in the above comments, I UNDERSTAND some people love it hear. and thats fine!!!
Everyone is misreading my comments and seeing what they want to see in them, not what ive actually said.
1) Im not saying being unsophistiticated is bad, or that people who arent sophistiticated are worthless, or not capable of being happy. im only saying i feel like i fit in better in a more sophisiticated enviroment, and that im happier there.
2) Im NOT saying its wrong to be happy!! hell no. what im saying is that there is more to life than just happiness, or the search for it. i hope this makes sense. its a fine distinction. this was my reason for the example in the entry. too many people think "feeling good" is what its all about, and its usually not. usually its about appreciating the journey, smelling the roses so to speak. Im talking about the "higher pleasures," as opposed to the "lower" ones (John Stuart Mill makes this distinction if you wnat to get deeper into that). take sex for example, an experience which feels pretty good. some people search for that carnal satisfaction without any checks or balances. i would argue that, often times, such people miss out: A) they sometimes lack appreciatation for the love to be felt with someone that they have sex with, as the whole process's emphasis has become a search for pleasure, and lacks a deeper connection. B) because of this pleasure seeking (with little or no emphasis on the finer things), i would suggest that sometimes they come to feel UNHAPPY after a period of time.
and again, kelsey, i'm not criticizing other people or you. i think you've seen what ive seen and made that distinction for yourself, that you like it better here. thats the whole point of going away to college...seeing what else is out there. if you like it here better, thats fine! each person has to decide that for his or herself.
