Based of my previous observations of others and their partners, I came to the conclusion that partners were suited to their trainers in one way or another. I had not come across a pair that was incompatible before now.

Regardless, it is a three day walk to the next town. Foraging would be helpful, but if you ration your provisions you should be fine.
