Passion

Everyone has a passion.  You may not always get to indulge it but it lurks in the background waiting to be pursued with wild abandon.  Mine happens to be video games. And more specifically role-playing video games.  I am a proud gamer girl (because I think the fact I'm a gamer is more important then the fact I'm a girl).

On my own, I am currently playing Eternal Sonata.  Strange premise but a beautiful game with good characters even if at the end of every chapter it takes a break from the story to tell me a little about Chopin's life and play one of his pieces of music. That is kind of on the back burner right now though as I'm engaging in one of my secret loves, Harvest Moon.  I  got Tree of Tranquility for at Thanksgiving (end of November for those not American) and I have been playing every free moment I get.  My husband says you can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl.  For me Harvest Moon is kind of like candy though.  At first you want to eat it all the time but if you do eventally you just get sick of it, but I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

As I post this I am watching my husband play The Last Remnant by Square Enix.  Although we have just started I am hoping for a fairly good game as I have come to trust the quality of Square Enix's work.  Normally I follow developers over publishers but I haven't had a game I thought wasn't a quality product from them.  In fact the only game I really didn't like was Final Fantasy VIII and that was more of an issue with the characters and the story then the quality of the game.

My favorite developer has to be Level-5.  I love the Dark Cloud series.  I am really partial to games where I can build things and the town aspect was engrossing to me.  I kept seeing how many different ways I could make the town and still fit the requirements.  I also like making my own weapons out of different things or amalgamating photos. I recently read a rumor in a magazine that there is a Dark Cloud 3 in development.  I hope it's true. Anyway, I can't wait to see what they do with Dragon Quest XI.  I thought making it for the DS was an interesting design choice, however I don't know if it was made by them or the people who own the Dragon Quest name and intellectual property.  I have heard wonderful things about White Knight Story in the gaming media.  Something about how they do what they do always produces an excellent game for me

I'm kind of obsessive about my video games.  I keep a notebook with two lists in it.  One list is of games that have been announced or are rumored to be in production, which systems they might be for, and any kind of idea when they might be coming out.  Although usually the last bit is only a year.  The second list is of any games that have definite, if somewhat movable, release dates and a marking for how interested I am in that game.  This second mark is for my husband's knowledge so if it is close to my birthday he can get me something I am really looking forward to.
