Today was pretty awesome, despite being kind of horrid body-wise. I was sore and pathetic today, which sucked, but a friend came over and hung out with me, I got a bunch of sewing done, and the weather was fantastic for the early months of the year in Ohio (55! Sunshine! Blue sky! Still warmish in the evening! Dear God, I just realised, I have no idea what that is in C. I'm a terrible NZer!)
And we had roast chicken and roast vegetables for dinner, including some more of the Japanese sweet potato I've got masquerading as my oh-so-missed kumara. And life was excellent.
And then she loaded the dishwasher and then just started cleaning the kitchen, and then organising things we haven't sorted out. Our house came with all sorts of things, because it's furnished, and we've bought various things, like appliances, that we needed over and above that, and nothing really has a good home or is organised logically, or anything like that (I realise this is terrible, but in my defence it took a good several months for us to do much more than just survive after we got here, and then we were just sort of used to working around the chaos of things in weird places). So I joined in, and then Dan, and we ended up giving the kitchen a nice deep clean, and a good tidy up, and things are a lot more organised than they have been. I still need to buy Tupperware for the cupboards, and rearrange a lot of the storage, but things are looking much nicer in there now, and it kind of made my week. It's the sort of thing it's sort of hard to motivate yourself for, but doing it together made it easy and fun.
So it's been an awesome day. Which is good, because I'm still awake after 1am, and I have to drive Dan to the airport at 5.30am, and I suspect that combination is going to make tomorrow much less enjoyable. Such is life.
I don't care. My kitchen is shiny, the weather was nice, and is only going to get nicer as we head towards Proper Spring, and I get to go to Gulf Wars next week (plus probably sidetrip to New Orleans). Life is fabulous.
