Last night was made of 100% Awesome.
Why? Because I saw Renegades at the Cab Vol (essentially Feeder with a twist; Grant & Taka plus drummer Karl Brazil). It was the first night of a short run of UK dates in smaller venues, coinciding with the release of the second Renegades e.p.
It was a really stripped-back kind of set up, which worked well in such a compact (sold-out) venue, and there was definitely a sense of the guys going back to their roots. The new sounds from both of the Renegades e.p.s were great; with a heavier, more grungy/punky feel to them. 'Renegades' from the first e.p. was a particular highlight.
Fittingly, the encore included some proper old-school Feeder tunes from the Swim/Polythene era: Sweet 16, Descend & W.I.T.!! It was great to hear those vintage songs live.
They also played a cover of 'Breed' By Nirvana, and totally nailed it. It fitted in really well with the style of the rest of the songs they played that night. One of their own songs earlier in the set had a real Nirvana vibe - it was reminiscent of 'On a Plain' which pretty much ran through my head for the entirety!
Good times :)
