Episode 4.18 - "Tell Me Somethin' Good"

Apr 23, 2007 08:38

Previously on Chaos Under The Big Top: The College Years... Since all the single dorms were taken, theme housing is unsavory, and James stubbornly refused to stick with his current roommate, he was forced to go out and find a new roommate within a matter of days.

WANTED: 1 MALE Roommate 4 Next Year. That was the tagline for my classified ad on this morning and afternoon's student digests. Nearly six hours later, my afternoon catnap is interrupted by an extremely persistent phone call. Seriously, I don't tumble off the top bunk until the 13th ring, yet it continues to ring! I hear a woman's voice on the other line, she asks for me (ironic how I seem to be the only one who ever gets calls on Billy's room phone), and asks if I've found a roommate yet.

She makes me an offer: this group of 4 guys are looking for a fifth to live in one of the suite-style Eagles Apartments. Her group of 5 gals have a Room-Switch arrangement with them since they'll be abroad in the fall, while the guys leave in the spring. Therein lies my dilemma: I'm not going abroad. So, do I accept a guaranteed housing option in the fall and a random toss-up in the spring or do I pass? Let me think about it...

I appreciate it, but despite my whorish tendencies, I'm not that desperate. Something better will come along, I just know it. And even if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world. I came to this realization after checking the huge folder of roommate requests in the ResLife office, a lot of reasonable candidates. Worst case scenario: I'm stuck in Musselman with some random guy who was also hoping for a single. A week and a half goes by; my selection time has passed but the sophomore housing lottery hasn't even started yet.

INBOX (3). Upon my return from the gym, I see something of interest in my inbox. It's a ROOMMATE REQUEST... from Jinming, a friend from my Theory of Film Genre class. I reply, he calls me up on my cell, we come to an agreement about where we want to live, and I set out to take care of everything, since my lottery time was over a week ago and his is just coming up in 3 days. I call up the ResLife office to reserve the room I have now (Lahm.10), but the office has already been closed for 8 minutes. Which means... I have to wait all weekend and go to them first thing in the morning if I hope to re-claim this kick-ass room.

After telling Billy the good news, he tells me that a few days ago, two girls walked up to him and asked for a tour of our room, because they'd be living here next year. Right... over my toned, acne-free, twenty-year-old dead body will they live in MY ROOM! Hell to the No. *shakes head* Monday rolls around, I get up bright and early @ the crack of 7AM, make myself purrty, strut over to ResLife Office and talk to Sharon Fissel, the housing coordinator, personally. Long story short, Jinming and I WILL be living in Llama-Llama-Lahm.10 again this Fall! YEE-AHHH!
