So I went back to Weight Watchers today. I had vague intentions to do so when Gwen was three months old, but that was right around the time I started my half-marathon training, and I didn't feel like I was capable of changing everything at once. And then there was our trip up the lake, and there was really no point in trying to eat healthfully up there. And then I was going to Vancouver right after that, and again, no idea what food options I would have available there. So I put it off and put it off.
Then about four days ago I suddenly got SICK of being fat. So today, I was ready. And off I went!
I went to the Monday morning meeting, which after attending once I don't think I will continue to do. I had hoped it would be a small meeting, which it wasn't, and at the same time there wasn't anyone there I had anything in common with (lots of older retired people, no one my age, no moms). The leader is one I've seen before and she doesn't exactly blow my socks off. The real deathknell is that it totally screwed up Gwen's naptime.
Furthermore, the WW rule about a lifetime member returning after a baby is that I would have three months' free meetings to get back to goal, but I have to bring the baby every week. Since Gwen is already over three months old, I don't qualify for that, so I had to pay anyway. So I may as well try an evening meeting, with members and leaders I know and like, with or without hauling Gwen along.
So, because I am a "nursing mom" I am supposed to get 10 extra points per day, which is freakin' HUGE. For context: when I hit goal weight two years ago, I was eating 20 points a day. So this is half again as much.
I got all the info and had a look at it when I got home. It's kind of overwhelming, but I will manage. I think for the next week, I'm just going to continue eating as I have been, but I will journal and track everything, just as a way of easing myself into it.
The materials now are very slick and informative, with lots of meal plans and shopping lists and "what to have in your pantry", so I should be able to get organized and get on track over the next week.
