The Southern Raiders

You really wanna know? Hmm, maybe you could re-conquer Ba Sing Se in the name of the Earth King? Or, I know-you could bring my mother back!

She was just harboring so much rage inside (a burden so many of us tend to bare during this war) that she needed to take it out on someone-anyone. She felt just so much pain from her mother’s tragic end that she needed an escape from the raw hurt, from the world now empty of the most important person in her life.

This isn't fair. Everyone else seems to trust me now. What is it with you?

She just needed someone to blame-and that burden fell to me. I was an easy enough target-the Fire Nation Prince who had, in fact, harmed her and tried to capture the world’s greatest hope more often than not. The early rage she had for me I deserved. The raw pain I heard in her voice and the tears in the catacombs of Ba Sing Se was something I had partly caused. Even the initial anger she had after I joined Azula instead was completely well deserved. I’ve deserved a lot of her rage, especially after I lost her trust-but not this.

Strangely enough, I’m no longer angry about it.

I forgive her. If only she could treat me with the same mercy.
