the Long Beach kickball league is taking shape.
This started as a off-the-cuff party conversation and ended up with 30 hipsters at a softball field the next week.
At the first game people came to party, with people smoking and drinking while fielding or kicking. Ironic t-shirts, Diesel shoes, nylon running shorts and stripped tube socks. yeah, real hipsters.
This week, for the second game, I thought I'd try a special gimmick. I have a collection of pipes, old-guy style, and I thought it would be funny to be fielding while smoking a pipe, to one-up the smokers.
Our team was down by 6 and I was up with two people on. I prepared my pipe and my wife says, "don't go out there with that pipe, John. It's not funny." But it was!
I walked up to the plate, cool as you please, puffing on my cherry vanilla tobacco. Surveyed the field. Checked the wind.
Pitch comes in and I kill it over the right fielders. I haul ass with my pipe, yelling at the runners in front of me to keep going before I pass them.
I land on home and stand there puffing my pipe while the dugout empties.
HAHAHA. yeah, that was funny.
