So, with Homecoming a few weeks away, Zayne will be returning to the island for the first time since some pretty drastic life changes. This means that it's about time for a good old fashioned infopost update.
What Happened
Zayne's Jedi Masters had a vision they interpreted to mean that one of their students would destroy the Jedi Order, the Republic, and each of them individually. In order to combat the Sith menace before it could take hold, the Masters murdered their students. Due to strange twists of luck and strange, twisted friends, Zayne survived and uncovered enough information to send him on a quest for justice.
A message from Zayne has since been delivered to the Masters on Taris warning them that he had a vision: he will hunt down each and every one of them until the survivor confesses and clears his name. And if it collapses the Jedi Order? Well, they started it.
What is happening now
Zayne is hanging out with his new friends who are lead by Marn "The Gryph" Hierogryph, a con-man and would-be crime lord. This means that a horrible crime drove Zayne to become a fugitive and then take up a life of crime. Zayne doesn't do things the normal way.
Anyway, over the coming months, Zayne will have several canon plots with several intermediate things written entirely by me just to keep things fresh and give additional perspective on events. These plots will mostly revolve around trying to clear his name, trying to run some scam, getting tied up in events of galactic importance, and some combinations of those.
How this affects the game
Basically, Zayne's undergone two significant physical changes and one attitude change. For one thing, he's not wearing Jedi robes or anything that might be mistaken for them. Instead, he's wearing a very utilitarian outfit with belts and a strange half-poncho thing that is kind of "Han Solo vest" iconic.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, ZAYNE DOESN'T HAVE HIS PADAWAN BRAID. That's a very important symbol for a young Jedi. The fact that he no longer has his is visual shorthand that he passed his Trials and was made a Jedi Knight. In reality, he cut his own braid off so that he's slightly less recognizable as the Padawan who killed all of his friends, and it's going to kill him to explain that, no, he didn't get promoted, and it's actually much much worse than simply failing. But that's the joy of a town with a heavy Jedi population, so go ahead and ask about it. :D
In terms of attitude, he's a bit more suspicious, extremely driven toward clearing his name, and is more dedicated than ever to helping people. Again, this will be clear over the next few months. But over Homecoming Weekend, he's going to be checking in with anyone who might POSSIBLY know ANYTHING of his future to see if he can get some hints. It can't be less accurate than some Force visions he could name....
Oh, also, Gryph is teaching him how to be deceitful, and it turns out, Zayne's a natural, and these kind of games seemingly help him connect to the Force! So don't mind him if he blatantly lies about something at any point. It's a survival technique.
Is the Force with him?
One final note, I guess. Basically, Lucien and the Masters of Taris always taught the Unifying Force. From
Wookieepedia:
The Unifying Force was viewed as a deity that neither had sides nor chose them, treating all beings equally. Followers of the Unifying Force always kept their eyes open for future possibilities. In the end, it resulted in them trying to fulfill a destiny rather than focusing on here and now, as the Living Force supporter would do.
Zayne is rejecting Lucien's teachings now, so let's look at the
Living Force:
Proponents of the Living Force view, such as Qui-Gon Jinn, espoused a philosophy of "living in the moment," relied heavily on their instincts and concentrated more on sensitivity to living things, rather than fulfilling destiny, which was one of the main tenets of the Unifying Force philosophy.
Yeah, that's absolutely Zayne. And with him starting to blindly get a feel for this philosophy, his skill is starting to improve.
He still couldn't win a lightsaber duel against someone with any training, but he can KIND OF use the Force now.
Questiions? Comments? Anger because I spammed the flist way too hard a couple weeks ago?
