Woo! First AND Second place in the debate tourney!
Wow. Good weekend.
I participated in the Intramural Debate Tournament this weekend at CSULB. Cal State Northridge and Cal State Fullerton were competing as well...
Well I showed up and called my debate partner only to hear that she's "in the emergency room". Whatever. I'll bet anything she's in class Tuesday. I can't blame her... I didn't want to be there either.
So anyway, I ended up paired with my friend Jess. We had three debates, the first two were just randomly selected opponents, but the third time we were matched with a team that had the same score as we did. I thought we had done pretty well considering, but I had no idea what was to come.
During the awards ceremony, they began with awards for "Best Speaker". There had been other comptetitions going on as well, like informative speeches and persuasive speeches, so I wasn't even paying attention to this category, when they called my name. First place. I was so confused... I stood up and asked the lady to repeat the name. Naturally my face went bright red as I went down to accept the award. Apparently during the debates we were also being scored individually for our speaking skills. I won first over about 120 people.
As if this weren't enough, Jess and I made second place in the debates... Over 59 other teams, including those from CSUN and CSUF.
So after the ceremony I was recruited by the Cal State Long Beach Debate Team for next year. They're #1 in the country right now! I'm so excited... I'm still not over the shock. :)
So that was my Saturday. I've had a lovely Mother's Day, too... But I'm all sticky and sandy from the beach and I need to take a shower, I'll write about it another time.
(Finally got my Stoli from Kinko's, too. Hehe.)
