Hey, he whispers, soft breath against your cheek. Let's dance.
You blink once, twice--and refrain from telling him that it is 2 a.m. and it's his fault for working late so if he wants his dance he can wait until morning or--
His smile stops you mid-half-asleep-rambling, and you sigh. You can never resist him like that. So you let him take your hand, wrap his arm around your waist, sway you to a four-step waltz.
There's no music. You say gently, not quite knowing why you bother because the moonlight falls just at that right angle on his face and makes him look like the prince charming you've always loved in your fairytale books.
I'll sing. And he does.
You rest your head in his shoulder, content to follow, to be led. When you close your eyes you can hear nothing but the faint rustle of the wind and his breathing, his heartbeat, maybe the soft patter of your feet on the carpet; they are almost magical in their simplicity.
You've always known that you will spend the rest of your life with him; but it never hurt to be reminded.
