Many long years passed and life had continued on for Laurelin, quite uneventfully. She never forgot her time with the man she knew only as Strider, as she often thought of him and their days together.
Then one warm spring day in the year of 3019 (Shire Calendar 1419), a company of men rode up to Laurelin’s gate. They were dressed in silver armor with an insignia of a great tree on their breast plates. One carried a white flag with a matching tree and stars embroidered on it.
Laurelin walked to the gate to greet the men, and to her surprise, she recognized one of their faces. Andale smiled in return and dismounted from his horse. “It has been many years, my lady. I do trust you have been well.” He removed his helm to reveal silver hair where once thick brown hair had grown.
“My lord Andale, what brings you to my door? Not of ill news I trust.” Laurelin was indeed curious as to the purpose of this visit.
“Nay, my lady. I am here at Strider’s request. My men and I are to accompany you to Gondor.” Andale stated as he handed Laurelin a scroll tied with a golden ribbon. “This letter shall explain why we must make haste, my lady.” Laurelin accepted the scroll and opened it.
The scroll was a letter from Strider, which revealed him to be Aragorn, heir to the throne of Gondor. Laurelin could not believe her eyes as she read his letter. His coronation is the first of May in Minas Tirith and he is requesting her presence. She could not hide her excitement and thanked Andale for delivering this message to her. “We should depart at first light if you are able my lady.” Andale advised.
“I believe I can manage to get things in order. But allow me to feed you and your men tonight.” So it was settled then and Laurelin prepared a meal of roasted pork, potatoes and sweet bread. The conversation over the meal consisted of the people and culture of Gondor. Laurelin had many questions as to what to expect once they arrived in the city of Minas Tirith.
Sleep would not visit her this night as her thoughts were filled with wonder and excitement. Many years had passed since Strider had stayed at her cottage. Laurelin tried to imagine how age might have marked him and if the crystal light still shown in his eyes.
Just before dawn Laurelin and the men began the journey to the kingdom of Gondor. As they came to the first bend in the road, Laurelin turned to look upon her cottage once more. The sun was just beginning it’s descent into the new day.
I want to finish this up with the reunion in Gondor...I know basically what the end will be...but need to fill in with details. So push me people! I need pushed!! *laughs* Thanks for reading this as well. I truly appreciate it gang.
