My Descriptive Essay

Feb 27, 2007 15:06

I survived two exams today. Whew. I think I did fairly well on both. I have one more midterm next Tuesday. Then hopefully a little breathing room for a bit. We have our long *sarcastic eye roll* spring break this week, no classes Thursday or Friday. So I will sleep in and finally make some time for Photoshop! So hopefully I can post some new things for you guys by the end of the week. I wanted to share with you the essay that I just got back, with an A+ on it *does happy dance* as well. So under the cut, if you are bored....

My Sanctuary from the Real World

As I step into the small room at the back of my house, I enter my own tiny sanctuary from my daily life in the real world. Filling the corner of the small room, my wooden hutch-style desk holds my computer, printer and shelves containing sentimental trinkets. I am readily greeted by magazines, books and collectables from my favorite films piled high on the shelves overlooking the desk. On the desk itself, I am promptly surrounded by stacks of magazines, notepads, journals and my vast collection of writing utensils. All the tools I need to unwind, letting my creativity flow, reside on this desk.

The first object to draw my attention is the overstuffed black office chair beckoning me to snuggle down into its soft leather arms, letting the stress of the day melt away. My favorite toy, a small plush stuffed horse, greets me from the top of the nineteen-inch black monitor. To my left on the desk are three coffee cups brimming with a colorful array of pens, markers and pencils. A calculator adjoins the cups separating a speaker from the monitor. A scattering of Photoshop magazines threaten to cover the surface of the desk, like kudzu over scrub oak.

The first shelf overlooking the desk is chock-full of journals, stamps and correspondences awaiting my attention. The top shelf contains three racks of music CDs along with my collection of Lord of the Rings magazines. As my gaze shifts farther upward, I find a lamp in the shape of a sea shell accompanied by a tall, slender lavender scented candle. An alluring aroma of a high field of fragrant lavender blooms, my favorite scent, is ever present despite the candle remaining unlit.

The wall surrounding my desk is adorned with Lord of the Rings toy action figures still encased in their packaging. Aragorn stands guard over my bookshelf to the right of my computer monitor, sword drawn to defend the row of books to his back.  The bookshelf itself is jammed with computer graphics books and magazines. Bordering the printed media, another stack of music CDs threatens to tumble down on top of me as if to remind me to open the media player on the computer. A small black circular fan resides on top of the filing cabinet to the right of my desk. A cool breeze caresses the surface of my face as the blades spin, circulating the air around the undersized room. The whispering sound of the fan is easily drowned out by a dog barking outside.

Glancing farther to my right on the desktop, my favorite ink pen awaits my attention. The plump cylinder, wrapped in a purple rubber grip, fits comfortably between my thumb and index finger as I contemplate scribbling my next literary masterpiece. My large ring-bound journal accompanies my pen. Opening the worn cover reveals pages full of partially written thoughts and impressions scrawled out over the past decade.

Before submerging myself wholly into my sanctuary, my eyes briefly return to the plain white door behind me, the smooth surface void of any decoration, offering a complete contrast to my cluttered desk. I reach over closing the door, satisfied by the sound of the latch clicking into place. I take up my purple ink pen, give one last glance over at Aragorn keeping watch, and touch pen to paper.

I handed in my latest essay today, total crap, so I probably will not be posting it. *laughs* But I hope you guys like this one. My instructor commented that my analogies were very creative. Go me! *gg*
