After about 18 months of the all-clear, on Boxing Day my father suddenly developed retinal problems in his basically remaining, right, eye and had emergency surgery in Barrow-in-Furness on the 28th. The surgeon made 500 laser welds to hold it together. Yes, FIVE HUNDRED. My father was totally exhausted and must rest lots and refrain from lifting for the next month and then he will have a follow up examination to check that the surgery has worked.
This wasn't supposed to happen! * Howls *
When he lost most of the sight in his left eye, the top surgeon at Manchester examined his right eye and said it was "highly unlikely" the retina would detach and my father was relieved and happy in equal amounts. Now he risks losing his sight altogether, my father is a very worried man. He is also one of the bravest people I know.
Please keep us all in your thoughts.
