The First Day

May 08, 2006 22:04

Today was my first day in the new job and it was okay, as first days go.

It poured with rain all the way to work and I was soaking but I soon dried out and the manager, Eva, made me a black coffee.

Sasha, Adrian and I discussed various issues and eventually, after sorting out the mess of filing and mis-filing, I got to work on the Health & Safety project, typing up a checklist and possible remedies if anything is not okay, using official leaflets etc as a working source of information. I had to email the documents to myself so I could print them off at home tonight (which I have now done), as neither printer in the coffee shop has any ink!

I had a few suggestions which I shared with the guys and already I can see where money is being wasted. However, we are all singing from the same song sheet so soon we will be running a tight ship if we continue pulling together in the same direction. A lot of exciting things could happen with the business.

Sasha gave me a book on Blue Ocean Strategy to read up on. He and Adrian have already read it and I must too. The first chapter was interesting and made the train journey seem shorter.

Adrian said he might send me on a Negotiation Seminar in July.

Tomorrow Sasha and I carry out the Health & Safety Assessment at the three coffee shops. I persuaded him to do it with me as I'm new and don't want to miss anything crucial. Besides, if I carried the Assessment out alone and missed something important then I'd be the one taking the rap and I won't put myself in that position. But it's great they trust me.

Catherine.
