Jackrabbit knows that his duty is to perform in the military, though it is his desire to
become a mother, he knows that he must perform his duty first and foremost.
He does not plan on death at such a young age.
The War was nothing like his peaceful Mattaspoissett, fasure. He fears for himself, for
his
pillowfriends back home, for Connie. For Bolivar and Luciente.
He fears also when he is struck down, and lay dying, speaking into his Kenner to his
Mothers. Let it be, let it be, he says to them, though striken with fear.
But he does not die.
He awakens, in a town that is not Mattapoissett but nowhere the war is being fought.
He awakens in Haurvatat.
