My cat has a peculiar breathy creaking sound which he saves specifically for when I have been away for some days.
It's not a Where have you been??? strident miaow; it's a I... I thought you were dead creaking noise and then I pick him up and pat him lots and he tells me that cats love longest when hope is gone. (We enjoy our melodrama.) And we cuddle.
Right now he is asleep on my ankles and I don't want to kick him off but there's a place I need to be soon so yeah.
I have been visiting Steph for several days - we attended, with John F and another friend, a fancy dress High Tea run by the Mary Potter Hospice as a fundraiser. I got to drag out my purple-and-pink Victorian bustle dress and glide around with perfect posture (because corsets don't let you do anything else) and look at everybody else's pretty dresses. And hats. There were a lot of lovely hats.
Also while there, I utterly failed to sew the pieces of a new pair of pants. We'll get there.
I did succeed in doing a lot of the admin for the game I will be running at Chimera - Tesla's Wedding, a rerun of the Steampunk larp I did a while back. I managed to chase down 25 out of 31 completed casting questionnaires and most of the players are tentatively matched up with a character. There was much swearing and grumpiness involved, as is traditional. Also, much character rewriting to account for the current player mass. Godammit. It will be fine.
On Wednesday morning Steph took the morning off and we bussed out to Newtown for an appointment (the which, went well :-)) and after we wandered around the suburb for a bit, found two excellent second-hand bookstores (I have two, count them, two new Judge Dee books!). Also, finally found a Hey, I'm pleased that you were born! present for Ned's kid. (If you're reading this, Ned, I'm very sorry - much of my life is a losing battle to not be distractible-and-feckless about things like this. But! There is a package on the way!) I should really look up some patterns for baby-clothes. Would be nice to make some, I think. Just for fun, like.
And the heat-pump! Has! Been fixed!
EDIT:
There is this Australian corset company that had a massive sale recently, so I ordered a steampunk corset, which was waiting for me when I got home. Lovely! Then they offered me a 25 percent off voucher if I did a marketing survey (which was fine) and now I'm twitching because even with a quarter off they're still (justifiably) expensive, but they're really good quality! and a quarter off! and I need to use it soon! Twitch. Twitch.
Will scrounge up a photo of new acquisition soon.
