Wow, it's been forever since I posted. Guess insomnia does odd things. Well, I suppose it's as good a time as any to play a bit of catch up on what's been happening since my last post. First off...I never really got back to work. Sure, I had a couple temp jobs, but they were even more temporary than my usual temporary jobs. One of them only lasted three days and made it pretty clear that I'm not all that good at canvassing.
Instead, I started going to school and I have boredom and the Art Institute to thank for it. I got an email saying their North Hollywood branch was having an open house. As I mentioned, boredom had set in and since it was not only free but involved free snacks I figured it couldn't hurt to go check it out just for the sake of getting out of the house.
Boy, talk about sticker shock. It was stupid expensive to go to the school, but I left with an application basket, a pretty tasty bagel, and a why the hell not attitude. Not about going to AI, it's got some great advantages, but it was out of my price range. No, I had a why not look into some of the community colleges attitude.
I did, and found out the application was both free AND didn't require transcripts from my disastrous first attempts at secondary education (a major hurdle in my mind). I was quite shocked to get a letter saying I was accepted and dove into a whirlwind of activity to try and scrape together funds as well as schedule classes in a way that would still let me look for work so my unemployment wouldn't get cut off.
I never found work, still haven't, and now that my unemployment has run out I have even less incentive to keep looking and getting back rejection letters or stone cold silence. Instead, I'm only a year away from my AA...I hope.
With luck and some mad cramming, I hope to make it through these last few semesters with a shiny new degree, and hopefully an even shinier financial aid packet so I can try for a BA as well. After all that...a career...unless the universe finally listens to that request for me to win the lotto or PCH so I never have to work a day in my life unless I want to . If Fate gives me the easy street card I think I'll go for commissions just to have something to do instead. Yes, I know statistically it's a fantasy, but a girl can dream. And if this dream comes true it'll be Japanese candy and SMART cars for all!
