RIP Good Shows Not Coming Back

Sep 07, 2009 23:00

The 2008-09 TV season was harsh ratings-wise. Genre shows were especially hit hard (which is an example of why I think the Nielsen method is flawed. All time highest movies are dominated by genre movies, & I find it hard nobody watches them at home?!). For today's entry, I wanted to take a moment of silence for all the good shows not returning this upcoming 2009-10 season.

Favorites from last season I'm going to miss:
Defying Gravity: The latest of a string of amazing ABC shows over the past few years to not pull in good ratings. I would have totally missed it if not for a friend pointing it out to me. The last scheduled episode airs 9/13, it will be a bitter sweet night (season finale of True Blood is also on that same night).

Life On Mars: When I learned 2nd half of this show's season was going to follow Lost, I thought for sure it would break the Lost lead-out curse. I was wrong. It was for sure one of my favorites last season, & I am sad an American version of it's sequel "Ashes to Ashes" will not see the light of day.

Terminator - Sarah Conner Chronicles: It blows me away that the movie can draw over a hundred million dollars, but nobody watches it on TV (allegedly, so Nielsens say). Another of my favorites that should have had 3 or more seasons.

Kings: Think the concept was doomed from the start. Anti-religious people alienated themselves because the premise was a contemporary take on David & Goliath. Religious people didn't watch because it was a contemporary take on David & Goliath. What NBC aired was an amazing story, w/ beautiful sets, & some of the best acting this side of HBO.

Award winning cancellation:
Eleventh Hour has earned CBS this year's must be smoking crack to cancel this show award.
Though I couldn't get into it (just couldn't get past them not really explaining why exactly they're doing what they're doing, & it really just being the 2 of them), it did have solid ratings. Though obviously not solid enough to meet CBS' standards.

Some honorable mentions (good shows I liked, but this post is already too wordy & I wanted to get it up tonight):
Eli Stone (don't normally watch lawyer shows, but did like this one's sense of humor), King of the Hill, My Own Worst Enemy, Prison Break, Pushing Daisies, & Reaper.

Next up, the DVR List...
