London is a definite, that's where we'll be flying into, and also I'm sure I will have to bring over some Twisties for my aunty!
We went to Edinburgh on the last trip, and it was fab, but I don't know if it will be on the list this time.
Barcelona (I always hear it in my head as BAR-CE-LONA!!!, the way the jingle for the Barcelona Olympics said/sang it) sounds nice, we have been talking about going to Spain. What do you like about Barcelona?
Craig is very keen to go back to Germany, and Berlin is definitely on the list. I hadn't considered Cologne, though. What did you like about Cologne?
Re: city vs. country, both, in parts. The things that stick with me from travel are natural marvels and things of cultural/historical/architectural significance. (I had always thought that this was all there was, until I discovered that for some of my friends, travel was almost exclusively about nightlife, or shopping, or the luxury afforded by travelling to somewhere with a weaker currency!) Being from Australia, where the oldest extant buildingwas built in 1793, the sheer age of some of the buildings etc. in the UK and Europe in general is a bit staggering - take a place like Canterbury Cathedral, for instance, which (according to wikipedia, anyway) still has bits that were dedicated in 1077! I love that.
On a practical level, we probably won't be driving on "the continent", since I have only had my license for a year and I'm not keen to drive on the "wrong" side of the road! That probably rules out anywhere really rural. We're pretty good with trains and buses in general, but this may be more difficult when the signs and maps are not in English! We shall see.
