Nerd Squee...

Recently I posted a request to help me build my trivia muscles, and got a response from my cousin, who asked "What is the capital of Bermuda?" I didn't know, but now I do. Win.

I don't know that much about Bermuda, but one of the things I remembered from the "Atlas of Nations" we had when I was a kid, was that Bermuda was one of the most urbanised countries in the world. Looking for a website to back this up, I came across NationMaster.com. Wow.

NationMaster features a section that is much like the Atlas of Nations, with detailed geographical and social info about each country. It also has a section called Statistics, which compares countries based on everything from Agriculture to Transportation, including Health and Mortality, Economy and Lifestyle. I find it fascinating. But what amazed me more was this: you can correlate the statistics with one another! This blew me away.

For example: There is a potentially significant correlation between number of days of work lost due to industrial action, and a country's export of dried fish. Odd? Not really, when you consider that the top three countries for industrial action are Denmark, Iceland and Canada, which are all prominent fishing countries. There are probably lots of correlations which are profound, but in a way I like the slightly absurd ones even more.

Anyway, check it out: NationMaster.com
I also recommend their Interesting Facts page.
