[Background] Itoshiki-sensei is a young high school teacher and youngest son of the prestigious Itoshiki family of Kuraizawa, Shinshi Prefecture. He has three older brothers and a younger sister, who are all educated members of society. When visiting his family estate, he looks like the normal young man wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
However, when he is teaching class and doing things around town, he stands out from the rest of the crowd as he prefers to dress in traditional Japanese dress. He is the proud teacher of Class 2-F, which just happens to be quite the mixture of students. These students include a girl who only sees things in a positive light, a girl who abuses people via email, and a girl who is filled with passionate love (just to name a few).
Lovingly called "momoiro kakarichou," this nickname reminds him of his first meeting with Kafuka Fuura (a meeting which should have never happened).
[Personality] Itoshiki-sensei is often seen trying to kill himself as he is frequently "in despair." These rash moments of despair are brought about by every day activities that remind him of the overall degradation of today’s society. He is prone to episodes of (failed) suicide due to his extremely negative, pessimistic, and paranoid attitude.
[Abilities] Teaching, every-day activities, narrowly missing suicide, being overly pessimistic.
[Other important stuff] When written horizontally, the name Itoshiki Nozomu reads "Zetsubou." As a result, he is known as "Mr.Despair." He is a man who only sees things in a negative light. He lives with his young nephew, Majiru. Like his own name, his brother Itoshiki Mikoto's name reads "Zetsumei," and consequently, he is known as "Dr.Death."
