The fic I'm trying to find was a two-parter "case" - they're trying to find a killer who's somehow affecting Castle personally, so Castle and Beckett go somewhere undercover. Things go wrong, and the bad guy handcuffs Castle to something and starts punching/cutting him and making Beckett watch. She channels her fear and her helplessness into making herself sob (which is where the first chapter ends, I'm pretty sure), falls to the floor to surprise and break contact with the guys holding her back, knocks everyone else down, saves the day! Later Beckett's standing outside in the dark on her own and crying a little bit - Castle talks to her but most of the conversation is in the dark so he doesn't even know she'd been tearing up.
I don't even know when it was written because I'd gone on a massive fic-reading binge over the last three weeks, but god, it's driving me nuts that I can remember all of this but can't even find it again!
