Here I am again, after a very very long hiatus. Basically I got to talking to Rob yesterday about how we need to take more pictures and write more journal entries so we can look back 10 years from now and remember things. So, here I am! We'll see how long I last at updating this time. I'm going for the gold!
Well, today I avoided lesson planning and watched Sleepy Hollow with Abbie's coworkers. I've been hearing stories about them for years, and I finally got to meet them and eat their hotdogs, an important component in the "get to know you phase." I agree with Abbie, that kiss Christopher Walken shares with the evil witch, where he apparently gnaws on her lips or tongue or something so that their mouths bleed before galloping romantically off into hell should have won best kiss of the year. We also watched Charlie Brown's Halloween special, always a good choice, and another episode of Charlie Brown where Snoopy turned Charlie invisible. Seriously. It wasn't like everyone was pretending not to see him, which would just be sad, but he was ACTUALLY invisible. He spent this time wisely, dressing up like a ghost with a classy tie, and FINALLY kicking the football which Lucy was inexplicably holding in the middle of the field. Why was she there when Charlie Brown was apparently not? And what prompted her to put it on the ground as if for someone to kick when she was all alone? Was she just practicing her dastardly moves so that she wouldn't lose her bitchy edge? Was she slowly sinking into madness without the presence of Charlie Brown to humiliate and torture? We'll never know, but I do know I felt righteous satisfaction when Charlie came along and kicked it multiple times and tossed it back in her face while laughing maniacally.
Yesterday I went rock climbing, and while fun, I am now sore and my hands are all torn up. When I told Mom Rob and I were going rock climbing after I watched this week's episode of Glee and Supernatural, she asked me if "That boy had learned to stand still yet." When I heard his day consisted of getting up early to play tennis, a gym trip, and something else robust as well as two and 1/2 hours of rock climbing with me, I was forced to conclude that, no he most certainly has not.
On a "general" note, I finally got students last week after six weeks of twiddling my thumbs, which is why I should be lesson planning right now. I DID use my time "off" to decorate my classroom and prepare somewhat, but the bulk of my time was spent filing, data collating, lunch dutying, reading novels, and watching a Civil War documentary. While I was pleased to be paid to do these things, I was frustrated with the waste of time. I get to teach sixth graders this year! They are SO adorable! I was only supposed to have one period of them, but Tammy Wilbanks, the new reading teacher, can't handle them. She apparently introduced them to her classroom with "Its nothing against any of you. I'm sure some of you are lovely people, but I can't stand your age group." She walked into my classroom Friday saying, "I'm going to seriously kill one of these little kids." So we switched, and I took the 6th graders off her hands. I think this up coming week will settle things down a bit and I'll finally get into the meat of my teaching program.
