Ok, I know, long time no see, again. But I'll make up for it with loads of information so that you will be bored and wanting me to shut up half way through....mwahahahaha! That will teach you to be curious about my life.
First of all, I'm listening to a wonderful list of "Diva" music my friend Doug gave me. I'm so happy. Right now it includes Gloria Estefan, Janet Jackson, Mylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston (heart!), the Spice Girls, Kelly Clarkson, and Madonna. I love Doug! Without him, I could not be in the computer lab dancing in my chair and singing softly "Strum me like a guitar, blow on my amplifier, when you hear some feedback go on and take it higher..." and receiving odd looks. ("Yeah that's sexy sexy sexy"). More weird looks. They must like my beautiful rendition of "Feedback" by J.J. maybe I should quite Teach For America and go into showbiz...
Speaking of TFA, I'm losing sleep over it but also getting more and more excited. I'm so going to die. But hopefully I'll make a bunch of students motivated and miserable while I'm choking...
I also have to do a box of homework for them, thus the lack of sleep. I hope I can get it done in time, Turkey trip and preparing for and taking the teacher test of Indiana might limit my time.
Another limit on my time is senior week, which is a week of partying that goes on after finals and before graduation. Its a lot of fun, a lot of socializing, a lot of goodbyes, and a lot of drinking, and thus not a lot of time to sit around and read about diversity in schools and classroom management. Ah well, I'm sure it will work out somehow. I don't think they'll fire me if I skim until I have time at the Summer Institute to truly read it. I hope. Well, I have two "lessons" down and six to go! I hope to get two more down this week (ha, but I can dream).
(Now everyone has left the computer lab. Oh well, I'll still sing to myself)
Ummm...I guess I'll talk about school. Finished up my work several days ago. Oh, last week was nuts in the sense of smack myself in the head. So I was writing booku papers and had lots of stuff on my mind. Thus I slept through a final. Good job me. It wasn't really a final, but we were supposed to come to class and turn in our papers at 10am. I woke up at noon. Looked at the clock, stretched, paused, a look of panic coming over my face, and then fell out of bed into my clothes, and ran to the teacher's office. She seemed amiable about it, and did not mention any taking off points or such. Maybe she won't penalize me...I hope. Then, the next day, my roommate shook me awake at noon, telling me I had a phone call. I blearily answered it. A woman's voice politely asked me if I forgot my lunch with the Dean of the Humanities and Sciences. I paused, a look of panic coming over my face, and then told her I would be there in twenty. I threw on clothes, brushed teeth and hair, and then ran for ten minutes to up the towers at the top of campus, and went to lunch with the Dean. Yes, I was receiving an award luncheon for having the top GPA in the Humanities, and I was twenty minutes late. Luckily, 3 other students were there (with the best GPAs for the fine arts, sciences, etc.) so it wasn't that awkward. I looked funny in my nice pants, blouse, and tennis shoes (because I choose speed over appearance) but it was a fun luncheon, and the Dean was understanding because I had been up 'til 5am working on a paper. A good way to end my time here at Ithaca College, yeppy sir. The rest of the week was dull, writing and turning in papers on time, then starting my TFA homework that I had been neglecting. I'm actually quite proud of my 30 page French Revolution paper, and my other papers were silly assignments that I didn't care about.
SOCIALIZING:
I went to my favorite history professor's house and had dinner with her and six other classmates. She lives out in the middle of nowhere, but she has a great view of the nature she hates. Yes, she has a comtempt for nature, unsurprising when, about a month after she finished building her house a tree fell on it and destroyed about half of it. Anyway, that was a fun dinner that lasted four hours or so.
Later that weekend, I went out to eat and bowling with friends. I almost broke 60! which sucks, I know, but i was proud of my effort. Participation prize! I even got two strikes, after about four or five gutter-balls, but still. I also hung out with my friend Doug as he finished up his last radio show at IC ever, and I had a good time rockin' out in the tiny studio with Doug, Jen, Josh, and Brandon to the best alternative rock of the 2000s, according to Doug and Josh. Jen cried, I hugged everyone and gave them duckies, and we had a good time. By the way, jumping up and down to Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" in a tiny studio is an experience I wish i could bottle.
This week...ummmm...well lots of stuff going on, of course. I watched the new episode of Doctor Who on Friday, with Lilly and Jeff and Michelle and Sharona, and then we went dancing at a club, where I irritated my bad knee, which is still not on speaking terms with me. On Saturday I went over to Emily's apartment to celebrate her birthday with...Karaoke! Yes, I totally threw away all my dignity and sang Backstreet Boys, NSync, Alanis Morrisette, and the disco song "Knock on Wood" as well as "I believe I can fly." Good times, sore throat which did not help my cold, and fond memories. Sunday I hosted a Reefer Madness party where I snuck into a classroom on campus, showed the movie on a big screen, ordered pizza, and once again sang along. About 15 people came, which was a good crowd although less than I was hoping for. With finals on Monday, it was understandable. Monday was a day filled with alcohol, as I went to the senior history picnic, where my teachers offered me wine and I gave out rubber duckies to their kids, and then I came home and went out to the bars with my apartment-mates, something we had never done before and were determined to do once before we left. We also checked out the "Senior Bar" party or something, and ate their free pizza and chatted. Yesterday was a picnic with lots of people I know. We had balloon races, many played on the playground, and built a pyramid of bodies. Sharona, Michelle, and I then went on a trek across the universe...a planet trek if you will, on our spaceship, "The Flying Pussyfoot." Yes, we did the Ithaca Planet walk, which is a bunch of informational monuments to all the planets that is built at a millionth scale of the solar system (or something), making about a mile walk. We phoned in and listened as Bill Nye explained the planets, and posed next to all the planets, and got horribly lost. We then went to the diner for dinner one last time, and ate gravy fries (YUM YUMYUM!) Finally, it was time for the senior dueling piano night which lasted from 9-1 where we requested songs and played rock band. Today is the senior splash, when we hang out, eat food, and then jump into the fountain.
Well, I suppose that is all for now. I probably won't update again til after graduation. So, to all my Indiana friends, I'll see you soon!
