Pretty sure LJ's back to normal now, so let's have a discussion thread about "Watershed!" Thoughts, squee, cries of anguish?

Personally, I am really hoping that Beckett's answer is "Not yet." And I think it actually might be. I don't think we're meant to think that this proposal is some big romantic thing that will solve all their problems. I think it'll just function to reassure Beckett that he wants them to have a future together, and maybe spur her to say that she does too, and then they can move on from there.

I feel like the whole "we don't talk about where this relationship is going" problem is a pretty fake one, though. Or at least, it's telling instead of showing. Same with Beckett suddenly wanting this new job -- it would work a lot better for me if we'd seen her thinking about expanding her career horizons sometime before, oh, the last episode. We're told she wants this, but she's been acting like someone who's perfectly content with the job she has. It's frustrating.

IKR. The Alexis two-parter had more foreshadowing than this. O.o;

Yeah, I don't get it either. I mean, yes, even people who would stand on bombs for each other need to have those conversations about what they want for the future, but ... I wouldn't assume they weren't committed, I would just assume they had a communication problem, you know?

I spent a good part of the episode wondering why Castle was making such a big deal out of Beckett possibly moving to DC. Dude, it's not that far! On the East Coast cities are much closer together than out in California, and we even have daily Amtrak service! I suspect, though, he was more upset about not being able to tag along, because I doubt any federal "task force" would welcome writer shadows the way the NYPD did.

There's also a war taking place in my head between my inner romantic and my inner cynic over the ending. (Well, "war" might be overstating the case - a pointed disagreement, perhaps.) On the one hand, I was all "Awwww." On the other, however, I couldn't help thinking it was maybe kind of just a little bit manipulative of Castle, and doesn't really address the core issues that remain between them. So I, too, hope Beckett says "Not yet" so they can work on building a more solid foundation next season. Especially if it means more Michael Dorn. :-D

Yeah, I think it's the tagging along. One of these days, I'd love to explore a little more what the police work means to Castle, besides just being an opportunity to be with Beckett.
