a.k.a The one with the red dress
OK, lets get it out of the way: the mods at castle_rewatch agree KB's worn more flattering get-ups. There. I said it. Still, The Red Dress (of Doom) is a Castle Classic, and it holds a dear place in our hearts.
It does!
There are more Castle Classics in this episode than in any other S1 ep, making it the de facto favorite of the season for this mod. But before we get into those classic moments, which include the Casketty porn at the shooting range (remember that?), we have a quick survey about Beckett (this includes some thoughts on S3-Becket and a picture from 3.14. If you haven't watched S3 and would prefer to skip anything remotely spoilery for that season jump ahead to the spoiler-free porn *g*):
Season-One Beckett: She's mortified by the idea of attending a black-tie function, mostly because she does not own a dress that is remotely appropriate for such an event. In fact, all her dresses are hideous, and she knows it. Lanie knows it too.
Enter Castle!Dress. It's beautiful (STFU. It's what they intended it to be). Still, she's is visibly uncomfortable wearing it, and more than a little insecure when Alexis tells her "you look incredible". She asks for lots of vodka to get through the evening, and only regains her confidence when she gets to pull out her badge (out of where? Castle is still wondering about that one)
Present-day Beckett: Is none of the above.
She has no problem picking out a fancy dress for a fancy function, takes compliments well and is socially adept. She also has a damn sex life, but we already beat that one to death here *g*

If you ask me (which you didn't, but I'm gonna tell you anyway) I lean towards the second option up there.
Before I started watching this show, I remember a good friend, whose opinion I respect and who loves the show, saying "Beckett's characterization is all over the place". While I wouldn't put it exactly like that, I do think there was a single quick (and drastic) revamp of the character in S2.
Personally? I'm glad for it.
Present-day Beckett is made of awesome, so I don't mind the fact that TBTB "cheated" her characterization like this. But because we're not only sexy but also nosy at castle_rewatch, we wanna know what you think. So whatdoyou?
Yes, Beckett was initially intended to be a little more Lilly Rush-y awkward at first.

This is, hands down, my favorite funny Castle moment of the season, and most likely top-5 over all. It's also followed by one of the cutest moments EVER, when he says he "tried to stay in the car" he really did... omfg *loves him* And her "Go ahead, I need the practice"?. Classic, as Castle puts it. So much, in fact, it's somewhere in the Nikki Heat books *g*
Classic Moment #4: Ryasito Perp-name Showdown.
Another classic that made it into the Nikki Heat books. If it's in a NH book, it's a classic, damn it. LOL.
