Tiffany leaned her back on her black spray painted headboard, tapping her fingers against her Powerbook keys, humming along to something her computer was blasting.1
"What'cha listening to, babe?" Eliot asked, falling back against the mattress, head leaning on her knees.2
"It's nothing you'd like, Eli," she smiled fakely, something that tipped the Hitter off. "It's just a song, sweetheart."3
"Come on, tell me,' Eliot prodded, kissing her tigh.4
"Make-Up Smeared Eyes, by Automatic Loveletter. It's one of my favorites lately." Eliot closed his eyes, stroking the inside of Tiff's milkwhite thigh as he listened to the words.5
And if every whole makes a scar and every scar marks its place then I will never live freely without your trace.6
And it'll never be fair, I wrote my songs for you and you never even cared.7
Eliot cracked open one blue eye when his girlfriend began to sing along. "Tiff?"8
"Eli?"9
"It's depressing."10
"I know."11
"Why?"12
"Not sure... just haven't been all that... cheery, lately." Eliot sat up, moving the laptop to his side of the bed. He pulled her into his lap, so they were mere inches apart.13
"Tiffany, you know you can tell me anything... I'm not your dad, I won't hurt you for anything," he whispered, kissing her forehead.14
"I love you, Eliot." he clenched his teeth, taking a deep breath.15
"I know."16
"Damnit! Don't you get it?" she pulled away, standing up and crossing over to the bathroom where she slammed the door and locked it. Eliot stared at where his girlfriend had been a moment before, then slowly stood up as words continued to eminate from the laptop.17
He slowly made his way to the door, where he heard sobbing and felt a pang of hurt in his heart. "Tiffany... Open the door."18
"no! Go away!"19
"Please?"20
Inside the bathroom, Tiffany tried to stifle a sob as she screamed, "No!" She wrapped her arms around herself, tilting her head against the mirror and staring at the door. She knew Eliot could go find Parker, and have her pick the lock. Or break it himself.21
Eliot sighed, leaning his head on the door. "What did I do, Tiff?"22
"It's what you refuse to do. We've been together for years, and you've never said it!"23
"Said what?" the door opened, and he almost fell into the shorter blonde girl. Her eyes were red, and her face blackened by smeared makeup.24
"Do you love me?"25
"You know I-"26
"Say it. Say it to me, please?" she whispered the last word as the song changed.27
I remember long ago someone told me I should take caution when it comes to love. I did. And you were strong and I was not. My illusion, my mistake. I was careless I forgot, I did.28
"Tiffany... I have trouble, you know that."29
Shout it from the rooftops, tell them all I know now.Write it on the sky love. All we had is gone now. Tell them I was happy and my heart is broken.30
Tiffany pushed past him, wiping her eyes and slamming her laptop closed. "If you can't even tell me you love me, I'm leaving." She whispered, picking up the backpack she held her clothes for the night in. "Wait, Tiff, please... Please, understand."31
"No, Eliot... I'm tired of this hoping, praying... I want you to say it, tell me how much I mean to you."32
Eliot closed the door just she reached it, and turned her around. She stared up into his blue eyes, with shocked greenblue. He leaned down, kissing her gently. "I love you."33
"Eliot..." she smiled, as the tears made their way down her face. She kissed back as sobs began to rack her body once more. "I love you too."
