Rookie Blue - Chris/Dov/Gail
Chris is angry. He’s angry and hurt and overwhelmed and confused, so he drives. And yeah, maybe he’s a coward for running away from the situation instead of confronting it, but he needs some freaking space. He just needs to get clear, to get free, to get away, to think. He needs some space to think.
He’s upset, okay? He’s upset that his best friend is apparently in love with his girlfriend, kissed his girlfriend, and didn’t even tell him. Neither one of them said a thing. And he’s not sure exactly which part upsets him the most. He thinks -- he knows it doesn’t make sense, really, it’s stupid -- but he thinks maybe what hurts the most is that he feels left out.
And how screwed up is that? His best friend kissed his girlfriend, and the thing that pisses him off is that he wasn’t there? What is that even about, anyway?
It’s not so much that he’s jealous. He is jealous, but it’s more complicated than that. Is he jealous of Dov for kissing Gail? Or -- and it’s weird, so weird to even think this -- is he jealous of Gail for kissing Dov? Ugh, confusing. It’s confusing.
He scrubs a hand over his face and changes lanes to get clear of a tangle of traffic.
Dov’s his best friend. Has been for years. And yes, there have been a few times when a surplus of alcohol and a shortage of women have led to things that they don’t talk about. And okay, yeah, sometimes he wakes up in a sticky sweat thinking about it, but he doesn’t say anything because it’s Dov. Dov’s his best friend.
And now Dov’s in love with Gail. His Gail. Gail, the best thing that ever happened to him, Gail. The girl of his dreams, Gail. And Gail let Dov kiss her. It isn’t fair, man. It isn’t supposed to happen like this. After everything he’s been through -- after everything they’ve all been through -- love shouldn’t be this hard.
So Dov wants Gail, and it seems like Gail wants Dov, too. And Gail wants Chris -- or at least she used to -- and he definitely wants her. And he’s starting to think that maybe he also kinda wants Dov...
Wait a minute.
Maybe this doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Maybe there’s a way this could work. For everyone.
He turns the car around.
