Hawaii Five-0 - Danny/Steve
It’s 2:24 AM, and Danny is awake. His eyelids are heavy and his thoughts are a little fuzzy and he’s tired right down to his bones, but he won’t be sleeping tonight.
Not tonight. Not with his partner’s heart thumping steadily against his skin. Not after a day like today. Not when he’d almost lost him again. No, he won’t sleep tonight. Tonight he’ll lie awake and watch over Steve.
Danny hasn’t let Steve out of his sight since he stepped off the decks of the Missouri that afternoon. Those hours apart were long enough. Too long. Every second of blind worry was another confirmation of just where his place is.
Danny belongs with Steve.
He has never in his life been so relieved as he was when he saw Steve striding towards him in the heat of the Hawaiian sun, safe and sound but bending under the weight of the worries of the day. It took every once of willpower he had not to fling himself into Steve’s arms then and there.
And, okay, maybe there was some hugging. And maybe he took Steve home and stripped him down and cleaned him up and fed him Chinese takeout from that place Chin told him about. And maybe he let Steve fall asleep with his head on Danny’s bare chest. Maybe he hummed gentle tunes and stroked his back until the worry left his face, and maybe right now he’s pressing a soft kiss to his forehead.
But that’s his job, his place. That’s how it’s supposed to be. Steve takes care of everyone, and Danny takes care of Steve.
