http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/19/official-hd-dvd-dead-and-buried-format-war-is-over/ Looks like blu ray is the winner. I haven’t followed the battle between HD-DVD and Blu Ray closely. Before this story came out, I had my money on
HD-DVD. Technically,
Blu Ray is the superior product (higher capacity, etc) however most of the top movie studios were backing up HD-DVD. I was almost certain that Blu Ray was going to fail considering the cheapest Blu Ray player was the PS3 (I believe that has changed). A few months ago, I had a chance to snag up a HD-DVD player for my X360. The deal included 5 (from a list) HD-DVD movies and the player for $120. At the time that was a great deal since the quality difference between Blu Ray and HD-DVD was so small you couldn’t tell. I’m glad I didn’t buy it.
In a way I’m glad the “war” is over. I wasn’t even born when the format war between VHS and Betamax happened. I just want one format to watch my movies. I don’t care which format wins.
