because i have way too much fun making lists, here are my ten favorite albums of all time:
1. weezer - pinkerton
this and the blue album seriously changed my life. if i hadn't come across weezer back in the day, i wonder if i would be the music fanatic i am now. because really, everything i listen to has branched off from them. would i even be a music major? probably not. would i have learned guitar? probably not. and what i would i be without my musicness? i can't even imagine.
2. pixies - doolittle
this album blew me away from the opening notes of "debaser." i remember going out and immediately buying surfer rosa after hearing this album.
3. the zombies - odessey and oracle
best. melodies. ever.
4. elliott smith - either/or
i remember buying this on vinyl along with "sumday" and "pig lib" at the virgin megastore when i went to see the shins in new york. successful record buying day. i've heard this album so many times, but every time i put it on i just can't believe how good it is.
5. the beatles - abbey road
whenever i go home my parents listen to this with me during car rides. my parents totally could have turned me into one of those beatles-obsessed kids but they blew it by just having this compilation of singles from '62-'66. way to go, parents.
6. weezer - the blue album
so weezer is on this list twice. deal with it. because it wouldn't truly be my top ten without both pinkerton and the blue album. weezer was my life during high school. which is really sad, but whatever.
7. radiohead - ok computer
i just started listening to radiohead this past summer, and i don't know what took me so long.
8. built to spill - there's nothing wrong with love
"car" = perfection
9. the shins - oh, inverted world
i still love them, despite everything garden state did to my band.
10. the decemberists - castaways and cutouts
for a long time i thought this was my least favorite decemberists album (this was pre-crane wife, mind you!). sometimes i am just irrational.
