Merlin 4x12 - The Sword in the Stone, part 1

OMG. I still can't get over the opening scene. I was already thinking how sultry Arthur looked, staring at Merlin when he's walking towards him all purposeful and how it looks more sexy than "I'm gonna come kick your ass", but then the camera pulled back to reveal Arthur Sans Pants yet AGAIN.

As if that weren't enough, Arthur spun Merlin around and I wasn't quite sure if I was dreaming it and Arthur was really just gonna bend him over that table or what. I was a bit sad when he didn't, but still. Dude. You could cut the slash with a sword.

Though, Arthur honey, you worrying about putting on a few pounds is just silly. Merlin still loves you, obviously. Enough to surreptitiously let out your belts. ♥

All that slow motion with Arthur swordfighting and Merlin running? Hot. Agravaine walking and smirking not so much, but the rest was awesome. I love love love the way Bradley moves with a sword.

Love that Arthur FINALLY found out about Agravaine. And it took a while, but he finally sat down with Merlin and had that "you were right about him" talk. Poor thing, the look on his face when he asks Merlin if there's something wrong with him that makes everyone he loves betray him...ouch.

Just like the last time Morgana tried to take the throne, I still have a hard time reconciling the Morgana who fought Uther so hard over treating the people with decency and the Morgana who executes them, burns their crops, etc.

The whole simpleton Arthur thing got a bit old fast, I have to admit. A suggestible Arthur is just too weird. Though funny at times, definitely. All that "I'm entirely in your hands" thing was just...Merlin's FACE. Hee. And of course he likes Arthur in a midriff baring shirt. Of course he does. Plus we got another possible checking for woodworm joke. Still, these are pretty dire straits for the both of them and it's a bit odd for Merlin to be indulging in "let's humiliate Arthur" games, even in private. It's not quite mind control, but he is definitely taking Arthur's will and choices away from him and that's just an unacceptable breach of trust in my eyes. NOT the way to get Arthur to be okay with magic. And yet while Arthur kicked him a bit for it, he played along when he needed to. Of course, if he'd known Merlin used magic on him and didn't just take advantage of a knock on the head, then it might be another story, but nevertheless, Arthur continues to display enormous trust in Merlin. I dunno, I have FEELINGS about this plot point and just can't decide.

Also, Tristan and Isolde! Cool. I do love seeing new versions of the characters from the legends. And they kick ass, too! Well, almost. They really could've let Isolde defeat even a few men before getting cut down, y'know. But no, Arthur with busted ribs is healthier than a woman with just a few cuts. Okay, maybe I will just try to hold out some hope that both she and Tristan become knights or something.

And Gwen! She went to stay with Hunith after all, yay!

I'm not sure I can wait for the next episode, though it will make a pretty epic Christmas present. OMG, so much happening! Gwen and Morgana facing each other down, Arthur pulling Excalibur from the stone, at least SOMEONE finding out about Merlin and his magic. I am so worried for all the Knights, though. I fully expect at least one death and really don't want it to be one of them. Please don't let me down, show!
