This is interesting information that I thought I'd share with y'all. I know that most of you are in sucky financial straits along with me.
So I've got a job now, but it's contracted so I get paid when my boss gets paid, which won't be until next week. Which means that this month, for the first time ever, I missed a credit card payment.
Normally this would mean that my interest rate would go sky high, I'd pay a huge late fee, and it would get reported to the crediting agencies. However, none of that's going to happen. Why? Because I've paid more than the minimum, well before the due date, for almost a year on this card. So rather than penalize the fuck out of me, Providian sent me a letter saying that if I pay 2 months minimum before the end of this month (doable, just barely, but doable) that they'll wipe it off my record. No fees, no hikes, no reporting as default.
So here's the lesson I've learned: If you do a damn good job of NOT screwing yourself for a year or so, then when you finally get into that tight spot your creditors are forgiving and willing to work with you.
One more reason I'm always nagging y'all about good credit. Once you've got it, you stand a good chance of keeping it!!! Yay!
