Here's the kicker. That part about the fire? It's happened to me.
Twice.
#1 10 years old. The hotel I was at had a fire a couple floors down. Alarm went off and my mom went to check it out. And got locked out. Yeah. And my dad was at the pub across the street, which left my brother and I asleep inside with alarms going off and my mom pounding on the door. When I got him up and went to let my mom in she grabbed us and yanked us out. So I spent 45 FREEZING minutes in a little satin nightgown outside in NY in, I think, August or so.
#2 Dorm fire. Not just an alarm, actual fire. Grabbed my coat and woke Sush up and ran outside. Unfortunately there was nothing UNDER the coat and this was in MA in February.
The moral of this story is:
From now on I'll only sleep in the nude if I'm sleeping in a fireproof safe.
