So I was at the computer about 15 minutes ago (at about a quarter past seven) when my doorbell rang. I flew down the stairs and opened the door to find a guy who introduced himself as "Dave from Time Warner". Dave had a clipboard in hand and was going around the neighborhood taking asking people how they liked their cable service. He consulted his clipboard for my name and to find that I had a lot of different stations and a DVR box from Time Warner (all true.) Meanwhile I'm getting a semi-uncomfortable feeling about this all. Sure, he's got the details of my service & my name right, but he seems to be ready to have a nice long chat about my service, which I really don't feel like having while he's on my doorstep & I definitely don't feel like inviting this stranger into my place. I pretty much say that I'd rather not have this conversation with someone who hasn't shown me any identification (to which he shows me his badge - conveniently missing any photograph), and I basically said thanks but no thanks to the conversation & started to close the door. As I did so, I hear Dave say "That's okay if you're too stuck up to talk with me..."
Yeah, that's it. I'm too stuck up to have a conversation with some stranger who either is going to get around to trying to sell me their phone/cable/internet package, or is some skeevy dude who got a hold of Time Warner customer information & probably knows there's a good chance I'm a single woman living alone.
Okay, sure, a large part of my skepticism was due to the fact that I was in the middle of a sudoku puzzle when the doorbell rang, but I don't think I was being completely unreasonable to cut that conversation short. Was I [/paranoia about being viewed as a paranoid bitch by some possibly innocuous customer service representative]?
