So I guess y'all want to know how my past weekend was? Be prepared for an epic amount of text! :D I don't have all the photos yet since over the weekend Rowan copied a lot to his lap top so he had more room on the camera but I'll make another post later with more photos.
Our flight was Friday morning and that day was so crazy, I woke up at 3am and couldn't really get back to sleep so all day I was running in adrenaline and well, tiredness! We nearly missed our flight because the bus taking us to the airport had a new ticketing system and they didn't take into account how long it would take for people to pay for the tickets into the time of the bus trip. Thankfully our flight was a little delayed any way so we got to the Airport in time. That being said everyone was really nice and super helpful, especially the bus driver and the lady at the check-in desk. After we got to Melbourne we went straight to Rowan's Dad's place where we were staying to drop our suitcase off. We then made our way into the city and hang out there for a few hours because early in the evening I had planned a Lolita meet. Yeah. I thought had planned a Lolita meet but only
natasha_lolita turned up. Only one person sent me an SMS telling me they weren't coming so for everyone else not to show up or even tell me that they weren't coming because I gave them all my mobile number really sucked. I was really tired and I could have gone home early if that had been the case. Either way I still had fun with
natasha_lolita, her friend and Rowan. Nat dragged us to this great Japanese restaurant after we went to a new purikura place that had opened up since I was in Melbourne last:
Doesn't she look cute in the pikachu kigurumi?
The next day was the first day of the Con. We had a wonderful big breakfast at a cafe near Rowan's Dad's house where the toast was at least an inch thick and then we headed into the city. By the time we got there the line to see Jim Lee was epic and because it stretched in-front of the Wildstorm artists table I didn't even know they were there because it was so crowded. IMO it was a bad place to have the line stretch to. The first thing I bought was the trades of Runaways 1 and 2. I was so excited to see them there, I love that series so much. After wandering around the hall and buying some stuff Rowan and I left to get some food and then arrived back in time for the David Hewlett panel. (The guy who plays Dr. Rodney Makay on Stargate Atlantis) sadly we weren't there early enough to snag a seat but the doors were left open and we were allowed to stand in the door way and watch. David's panel was great to watch, he's such a cute and charismatic guy. There was a joke made about him becoming the next Doctor and I am so up for that! :D
Right after David's panel it was Jim Lee's panel and thankfully Rowan and I were able to get seats. Yay for our aching feet. It was a really nice panel and because it wasn't too crowded a lot of people got to ask him a question. I asked him a question and he recognised me from Myspace. I sadly didn't get a chance to gank him after the panel about the portfolio review since he was rushed off by the Con staff. By this stage it was late in the afternoon and Rowan and I were both really wiped so we decided to go home early and rest so we could be up early the next morning to hopefully be at the front of the Jim Lee line. I read comics all afternoon / evening and Rowan watched the Ranma 1/2 DVDs I bought on his lap top.
On Sunday we got to the Con at 10am but sadly it wasn't early enough. The Jim Lee line was really, really long. Again it stretched in-front of the Wildstorm artist's table and then double backed on itself. I joined the back of the line and Rowan scampered off to get a coffee since we had not had time to have breakfast that morning. I'm going to skip through all of this and make a detailed friends-only post after this one about what actually happened. Needless to say it was really amazing and I did get my portfolio review with Jim Lee after 6 hours of waiting in line. It was totally worth it.
The 6 hour wait was broken up by a break in the middle and Rowan and I were able to sit down for a small while. It was so nice. As I said, I'll go into all of this in my next entry but I'm just so touched that Rowan was there for me during all of it. He's so wonderful.
There was a shipping container set up with 360s playing Gears of War 2. I think the set up looked so cool.
Some of the Wildstorm crew. JJ Kirby and Beth Sotelo.
Another shot of the Wildstorm table.
More Wildstorm artists. The table was fairly long and the artists were sketching all day, poor guys.
Jim Lee sketching next to his lovely wife.
Jim again. The guy is machine, he must have done around 100 sketches on Sunday alone.
It was raining Sunday night and my shoes had holes in the bottoms. My shoes and socks got very, very wet and cold.
Monday Rowan and I were due to fly back to Tassie but our flight wasn't until the late evening so we slept in and then went to see a movie at the local cinema. It's a gorgeous little cinema with huge seats and the beat pop corn I've ever tasted. We went and saw 'How to Loose Friends and Alienate People.' Afterwards we went into the city and bought our last lot of comics and stuff before grabbing our gear and heading to the Airport. We got home about 10pm that night and crashed in bed because we were both so damn worn out. After our trip Rowan had the last two days off so we could both recoup and spend some time together relaxing before we both went back to work. My weekend has awesome. <3
