Misses' Top | Misses' Top | See & Sew | Butterick Patterns

Cheap pattern, good value and easy too sew.

So I finally got around to finishing B5511.  It's a pattern for knit fabric blouses.  To be honest I got hella lazy and side tracked/distracted because have chronic Ooooooh Shiney Disorder (OSD hahaha).  XD   But I digress.  The pattern is part of Butterick's See & Sew line.  The line is normally priced around $2.99.  Fairly inexpensive.  So you do not have to wait for a pattern sale at your local crafts store.  The off shoot Butterick line is it's easy to sew line of patterns.  Maybe not as simple as Simplicity's sewing for dummies.  Perhaps a step above it. The fabric in this project is is a stretch knit.  I must confess I was super scared about handling it because I have never worked with knit before.  Plus I do not have a serger at the moment.  So I had to do so deep contemplation and build up some mondo courage before tackling it.  More info on the fabric.  I'm a Project Runway nerd.  Like hard core (see my Thursday night tweets LOL).  So I was super estastic with I found out that April Johnston had produced a line of patterns.  You find them a various stores nationwide.  I do know for a fact Jo-Anns does carry it seeing that is where I purchase mine.  The name of the fabric Soho Plaid (black) .

Butterick B5511The pattern in itself was fairly simple.  Two front pieces, one back, one cowl, and two sleeve parts (sleeve is one cut, wrong sides together to make a tube for the sleeve.)  So not much cutting.  The order of sewing went shoulders, cowl, side seams, sleeves, hem.   Pretty fast.   I procrastinated thus why it to me forever to complete it. As previously stated I do not have a serger.  To sew this I used a straight stitch while I stretched the fabric.  I finished the some of the sleeves and arm hems with a overedge stitch.  Word of note I purchased this pattern at the wrong size.  I had to manually re-size it so it may not fit perfectly.  I decided to go with the shorter 3/4 sleeve variant.  I guess it turned out okay.  So Butterick rated this pattern at very easy.  I disagree with that rating.  IMO it should be rated as an easy because knit fabric add a slightly higher level of difficulty.  And it is very likely that I WILL be reusing this pattern again.
