I think this might have just altered my life permanently

I was just in bed reading Kerouac's The Dharma Bums and ran across this passage. I had to rush to somewhere and share it with everyone.

"...refusing to subscribe to the general demand that they consume production and therefore have to work for the privilege of consuming, all that crap they didn't really want anyway such as refrigerators, TV sets, cars, at least new fancy cars, certain hair oils and deodorants and general junk you finally always see a week later in the garbage anyway, all of them imprisoned in a system of work, produce, consume, work, produce, consume...."

Shit, isn't that the truth? I feel trapped because I have to have a 4 day a week job to support myself, my lifestyle of consuming. I wish I weren't trapped by money and just could travel, have fun, live a little. Kerouac always makes me want to get out there and fucking LIVE life. Too bad I feel like I'm stuck, huh?
