1. I get the idea it is a past you don't want to think about often, but what is the best memory you have of FALO?
As far as a best memory, I don't know that I have one that stands out. I have a lot of good memories of FALO: meeting Elowyn for the first time at NYRF, the first gather I attended at Ghostdancer's house in Mahwah and getting to know Raum, meeting Daegmeir and our ongoing drow-dwarf banter, the adventure of camping at Iona Island for the first Mayfest, the camaraderie that seemed more prevalent in the 88-91 time period, and many more that I could list. Mostly they are moments that are hard for me to articulate.
And it's not that I don't want to think about it, but the way my time with FALO ended did jade my feelings about the experience somewhat. I have much nostalgia for those times, but I feel they have past and I must let them go. I still care greatly for many of the friends I made during that time, even though I haven't been in contact with most of them in many years.
2. What is your first memory of me?
Not the best memory: At the first mayfest, I remember Amber complaining that you hit her or something, over Arowolf. I remember thinking "What is she (Amber) worried about? That girl (you) is half her size." I also figured Amber probably did something to deserve it. :)
3. Are you personally, not the collective you of you and Michelle, raising your children with religion and of so, which one?
Since the kids are being raised Jewish, and I am not Jewish, Michele will be doing most of the organized religious stuff. I am inherently distrustful of organized religion, and would rather focus on teaching the kids spirituality - love and respect for themselves, others, and the world around them; a sense that they are a part of the universe and that what they do affects the world around them, sometimes in ways it may be hard to understand at first. Now if only I could remember these things myself....
4. The cliche: If you were a tree what kind of tree would you be?
This type of question make me nuts. I'll have to pick oak - tall, strong, and somewhat inflexible. And a little nutty.
5. What is your favorite gizmo?
Favorite gizmo? Hmm...this is gonna be tough. I am very much a tech person, but I tend to be very picky about the tech I actually buy. The gizmo I spend the most time with (besides my work computer) is my palm phone (
Kyocera 7135) that I bought to replace a dying cell phone and aging Palm Vx. The gizmo I am probably most impressed with is my
TiVo - it is just a beautiful piece of engineering combined with a first-rate user interface, probably the most innovative device of the last 10 years.
But favorite? I think that has to be my
Pronto remote. Without it, I would need 8 remote controls to use my home theater system. I can completely customize it to my needs by programming it on the computer, so I don't have to remember that the button labeled 'Last' is actually the DVD subtitle button. It can also do many commands at once. Want to watch a DVD? Press one button and the system is turned on and setup to watch a dvd - just pop a DVD in and press play. I am certain that this remote is solely responsible for Michele's approval of and interest in having a home theater, simply because she can use it now! In fact I think the remote may actually be hers. :)
