It's a' gonna be a long winter....

We got our first heating bill this winter... we're on the budget which means it's $196 for gas and lights every month (until they recalculate in May at which time I'm sure I will wish to die), but the actual heat charges were almost $300. For one. fucking. month. Not that we weren't expecting it...large, old house with old windows and doors and probably not a whole helluva lot of wall insulation, plus the predicted (bastard oldwhitemen oil company muggerfuggers) price hike... but still, shiiiiit. We're covering windows with those plastic kits and looking into what the window replacements will cost come spring. We have a spiffy new programmable thermostat which never gets set over 68... goes down to 60 during the day and during sleepy-time at night. We have blankets, we have layers. Shit, I love Wisconsin. *growls*

Getting our Xmas tree this weekend. With the nice high ceilings we're now sporting... no more 5- foot tree this year!

We're also trying to extract our security deposit from our landlord from Plymouth Street. She told me a few weeks back she'd be mailing it, problem is, her husband is in the Milwaukee VA hospital, apparently in rather touch-and-go condition. I feel bad for the family and I don't doubt that she will eventually get it to us, because she was always reliable, and they certainly have it to spare. I don't want to be witchy bitchy, but we're talking around $500 here, and we could really use it right now, what with holidays and heat bills and whatnot. So I'm just keeping things crossed that her secretary will be able to cut me a check...
