I know I'm a few days out of date on this topic, but I've just been mulling it over.
As an A-mer-cun, I know I'm expected to be all, "Yay, the tyrant is dead! USA! USA! USA!"
I don't feel that way at all. saddam's execution makes me feel sad. It's just another exercise in futility. What does his death prove or fix?
Maybe it provides some closure for people whose family members were murdered by him.. I don't know, I didn't have that experience.
But I can't make myself celebrate. I keep thinking how he never would have gotten to be as powerful as he did if we hadn't made damn sure he was there.. he was our pal back in the late 70's.
