So as you know, I really enjoy anime and manga. This week while I was avoiding work, which I am still avoiding, I was looking online for scanalations of manga. While doing this I ran across some downloads for a subtitled Korean drama called 1% of Anything or Something about 1% (it's not clear to me what the correct translation of the title is). I downloaded the first episode of it and regretted it. It was so cute and funny that I had to see the rest of it. I went through the 26 episodes (~1 hour long each) in a ridiculouly short period of time. Although the story does drag a bit at the end (because the relationships have pretty much been resolved by then) it was so much fun to watch. I usually avoid dramas because (as stated in earlier posts) I hate melodrama. I don't like to watch heavy stuff really, and alot of times the characters and music and stuff are so overdone. I got sucked into a few spanish language telenovelas, but thankfully, I pulled myself out again before too long. They are just too heavy for me, and most end unhappily.
This Korean drama was just right. The couples had problems, there was a character that had been physically abused by her stepfather, and there was a kidnapping plot in this series. But there was always a light and fun feeling throughout the series and no problem dragged on for too long (the kidnapping subplot was resolved very quickly, although it was spread over two episodes, the time it took was less than half an episode really). And one of my favorite characters, the girl who was abused, does get married and is really happy at the end (with a guy who absolutely adores and pampers her). I will admit that there are a lot of sappy moments, especially towards the end, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I like that stuff.
I regret this because I took way to much time this week watching the whole series and I now want to find other series in the same genera to watch (if anyone knows of any, let me know). Well, back to work for me.
